International standard ISO 6570: Natural gas -- Determination of potential hydrocarbon liquid content -- Gravimetric methods, in defining the potential content of hydrocarbon liquids in natural gas, regulates the measurement of the condensation temperature at which 5 mg / m³ of condensate falls. Compliance with these requirements is only possible using two devices: • Dutch gravimetric unit GACOM; • Russian laser interference analyzer Cong-Prima-10С. The Dutch gas transmission company Gasunie conducted a series of operational tests, which revealed the indisputable advantages of the Cong-Prima-10C analyzer. Representatives of the Vympel Research and Production Association took part in a meeting with employees of the Dutch gas company Gasunie, which was dedicated to the completion of comparative tests of the Cong-Prima-10С hydrocarbon liquid concentration analyzer and the GACOM gravimetric unit. The introduction of the new ISO 6570 standard is justified by the problems of measuring the condensation temperature of hydrocarbons in the transport of natural gas in several European countries. When measuring gases containing impurities of heavy hydrocarbons (octane, butane, etc.), analyzers made by different manufacturers determine the dew point with large discrepancies due to the different measurement methods used. Some devices are capable of recording the initial condensation stage of hydrocarbons from 1 mg/m³, and others - only with the formation of a condensate film with a thickness of 40 mg/m³. Thus, the condensation temperature can vary by up to 25°C. The European research group GERG, created by European gas transmission companies, launched the GERG PC1/Project 1.64 for Installation, Calibration and Validation Guidelines for Online Hydrocarbon Dew Point Analyzers (under the guidance of the Open Grid Europe laboratory). Bases on the research results, GERG made the decision to tune the analyzer so that the value indicated corresponds to the hydrocarbon condensation temperature (hereinafter - HCT) at which the condensation rate reaches 5 mg/m³. This indicator is approved by Dutch law, and is also advisory for other European companies. For these purposes, at Gasunie's request, European specialists developed the GACOM installation, which is a portable unit for taking automatic measurements of the phase state values of the potential content of liquid hydrocarbon. It is based on the gravimetric method for measuring the content of hydrocarbons in gas. The measurement principle consists in a highly accurate weighing of the separator, through which the cooled gas is pumped to the dew point. This method allows you to determine the HCT at which the condensation rate reaches 5 mg/m³. Disadvantages of this method: • Very high gas flow rates • The determination may take from 8 hours up to several days • The installation is comparable in size to a small room and is attached to the trailer of a car. The aforementioned disadvantages are solved by the innovative development from Vympel NPO LLC - the CONG-Prima-10С laser interference analyzer, which confirmed the possibility of measuring the temperature of hydrocarbon condensate precipitation at 5 mg/m³ in gases with different component composition. The device performs similar functions to GACOM in terms of result in just 40 minutes (GACOM - in 8 hours), while reducing gas consumption during the analysis. The CONG-Prima-10C analyzer has the following advantages: • High measurement accuracy • Compactness and ergonomics • Fast measurement speed • Low energy and gas consumption • Transported and used by one specialist. Joint cooperation between Gasunie and Vympel NPO was launched, starting with an order for the first batch of Cong-Prima-10C analyzers. At present, all the necessary European certificates are being prepared.
