Pipeline pigs are not an impediment to the efficiency of the Vympel-500 DN 1400 ultrasonic flow meter

25 April 2019

As part of the in-line diagnostics work carried lout on the section of pipeline from Urengoy to Uzhgorod, it has been confirmed that pipeline pigs do not affect the operation and reliability of gas flow measurement of the Vympel-500 DN 1400 ultrasonic flow meter.

The final question regarding the performance of the new generation single-line gas metering station based on a large diameter Vympel-500 ultrasonic flow meter. Would the performance of the meter be impacted after the pipeline pigs pass through its measuring section? The answer is a resounding NO. The impact of the passage of pipeline pigs on the performance of the Vympel-500 DN 1400 ultrasonic flow meter installed in this section was assessed from March 11 to 15, 2019 as part of the in-line diagnostics work carried out on the main gas pipeline section from Urengoy to Uzhgorod from kilometer 2,849 to kilometer 2,982. There were four pigs were launched in total. During analysis of the passage of the pipeline pigs, it was found that the in-line diagnostics activities do NOT affect the operation of piezoacoustic transducers and the accuracy of gas flow measurement of the flow meter. No emergency messages have been recorded in the ultrasonic flow meter archive.
